Comments: If you want to buy one window treatment book - this is it... This book has a great selection of window treatments and shows you how to make every one of them. The book covers panels and swags, cornices, rod pocket panels, valances, roman shades etc. The drapes range from formal to casual. Some of the drapes do not require sewing, and the ones that do use very simple techniques.
The two sections that I would have liked in this book are on scarf draping techniques and what to do about problem windows/doors. In spite of these omissions, this is a very good book.

Comments: THE best book for making your own window treatments! This book is absolutely awesome for ideas and instructions. It doesn't matter if you are a beginner or an expert at sewing, this book has step by step pictures so you can see exactly where you need to be in your project. I made a 12 feet long soft cornice that came out absolutely beautiful (with welting that I made and all!) and up until then, my sewing experience was in Jr. High sewing class.
All the projects have complete step by step instructions and photos. There are lots of great ideas for just about any type of treatment you could want. You'll be re-doing all of your windows!
This book is an absolute MUST for anyone interested in saving a lot of money and making their own window treatments. I have yet to find any other book that even compares to this one.

Comments: Clear and Easy How-to Even though the exact window treatment I was looking for was not included in this book, there were enough examples and construction tips to complete my project. This book is pretty, with lovely pictures and good illustrations, as well as many step-by-step instructions that are easy to follow and adapt to suit anyone's particular needs and creativity. A very good reference for both the novice and the experienced seamstress or home decorating buff. I recommend this book.

Comments: A real disappointment I was hoping for a book to give me some great ideas for window treatments and this book is full of just plain tacky window treatments. It does make it very easy to make them, but who would want to? The fabrics are cheap-looking and who wants a window with ties connected to potted plants?
The book is also lacking some of the most basic design concepts that I really wanted like balloon valances or just plain old curtains that open along a rod. This was my first return to Amazon. I have no use for this book.

Comments: Great book with great examples This is a great book with wonderful examples of various curtain/drape styles. The pictures show the exact steps one needs to take to complete a project--from measuring, cutting, sewing, hanging... If one is a beginner, one can follow the book step by step and end up with wonderful curtains. If one is an accomplished seamstress, one can really take off with various ideas from this book. This is a no-nonsense, solid and beautiful book.

Comments: outdated The ideas in this book are almost laughable. The projects that are shown wouldn't even look good with different fabrics. If you are into lots of ruffles and pouffy things everywhere, then this is for you. If you are into simpler window treatments with exquisite fabrics that complement a room, this isn't for you.

Comments: A great book for beginners Having bought a new home in the fall, I was desperate for custom window treatment ideas and not interested in the local store offerings. Not having sewn for 25 years, I was cautious about getting in "over my head." This how-to book was full of "doable" ideas. I created shades for a guest bath and two bedrooms and am now working on the master bedroom. My ultimate goal is a newly constructed sunroom and even though the book doesn't seem to contain exactly what I am looking for, it provided me with great practice projects and something to show for it.
