The Liberty Home: Distinctive Sewing Projects from Classic Liberty FabricsTotal Hits - 246  |  Hits Today - 1Rating:   Rating Average (0)    |  View Ratings  |  Add Your Rating
Since 1875, the name "Liberty" has been synonymous with quality and refinement in home decorating. Now, from kitchen and dining room to the living room, nursery, and dressing room, this book takes the reader around the Liberty home and introduces unique home decorating projects and accessories made up in Liberty fabric. It provides examples of both traditional and contemporary approaches to fabric choices and advice on the use of alternative or complementary non-Liberty fabrics. 250 color drawings. 40 color photos.
Liberty & Co., the London-based fabric and interior furnishings concern founded in 1875, is best known for fabrics using Arts and Crafts patterns from the early part of the 20th century. But this is not acknowledged in the introductory essay by Sarah Nichols, who chooses to show the complexity of the firm's production of interior furnishings in addition to their fabric. With no definition of the Liberty style, these soft-furnishings sewing projects for the home seem purposeless. That, plus the hard-to-follow instructions and lack of any U.S. sources for purchasing Liberty fabrics, make this a marginal purchase.

The Life Laundry : How to De-Junk Your Life Total Hits - 838  |  Hits Today - 1Rating:   Rating Average (22)    |  View Ratings  |  Add Your Rating
BBC co-host Walter (The Life Laundry) and antiques dealer Franks help readers tidy up cluttered living spaces in this cheerful how-to book. Directed at a wide audience-singles, married couples, divorcees, college students, professionals-the book explains why things begin to pile up, what the effects of clutter are and how to confront the challenge of cleaning it up. Correlating uncommonly messy homes with illness, stress and emotional hang-ups, the authors maintain that excessive material possessions "are often masking a more serious problem of holding on to past situations and emotions that you need to release in order to move forward." Concise chapters focus on different varieties of mess (clothing, entertainment articles, papers, garage junk, etc.) and include a self test to help determine the individual's particular problem areas. The authors, in an encouraging, empathetic tone, help the reader decide what is worth keeping and what should be thrown out.
