| The English Room takes you on a room-by-room exploration of the English home, contrasting town with country life, rooms designed for pleasure with those for more practical needs, and rooms meant to receive visitors with those that are private retreats. Country cottages and London flats, drawing rooms and kitchens all conjure up the essence of English life.

| I received this book yesterday and cannot put it down. The pictures, drawings and advice are fantastic. I am very interested in upholstery projects for my home and am ready to move from a "beginning Intermediate" level to "Intermediate". This book is just what I needed for more guidance. I have an extensive collection of upholstery books, and except for "Simply Upholstery" and the "Singer Upholstery Basics" books, I have been mostly disappointed with the books I have received as they were not helpful or showed unrealistic projects. This book is like being in an upholstery class with a smart, interesting teacher. I hope Dorothy Gates writes more books on this subject. I would certainly buy it!!

| 'The Fabric Quantity Hand Book - Imperial' Simple-to-use for estimating curtain fabric quantities quickly and accurately. Also includes estimation tables for valances, pelmets, swags, blinds, bed valances, covers and much more. Available in metric and Imperial measurements. merrick-day.com
This book is designed to make the task of estimating fabric quantities for curtains, accessories and trims easier and more accurate. The tables have been formulated as the result of our experience making bespoke soft furnishings. However, when estimating for specific designs, the quantities given may need to be adapted and so should only be used as a guide.
Maybe I missed it, but nowhere in the description did I read that this ENTIRE book is in METERS!! V. helpful for design prof's outside of the US, but every chart has to be converted for those of us stuck in the English system of measure. It would be HEAVEN if the book had been published w/both yards and meters. Oh well, writing conversions in the margin is a good "slow day" project.
