Country Floors Decorating With Tiles Total Hits - 677  |  Hits Today - 1Rating:   Rating Average (0)    |  View Ratings  |  Add Your Rating
Lavishly illustrated in full color, this is the first guide to one of the most popular and visually appealing elements in interior design decorating in tiles.

Design writer Siegel takes us on a inspiring tour of the history, stylistic concerns and uses of tiles. Though their cool, hard surface might seem best suited to Mediterranean climates, tiles have enjoyed wide use as far afield as the Netherlands, and any area subject to heavy foot-traffic could benefit from their easily cleaned faces. Lavishly illustrated with color photographs supplied by Country Floors, a well-known tile importing company, the book emphasizes the traditional ``country'' look; a brief, less successful foray into modern styles relies heavily on simple geometric patterns. In his introduction, Country Floors owner Norman Karlson tells how his fascination with tiles developed. Seemingly meant as a sourcebook for designers and tile enthusiasts, the volume offers scant information on the proper application of tiles--only instructions for care and maintenance. Installation, it is hinted, should be left to a specialist.

Country Living Decorating Vintage Style: Using Romantic Fabrics and Flea Market Finds Total Hits - 194  |  Hits Today - 1Rating:   Rating Average (0)    |  View Ratings  |  Add Your Rating
There are about as many versions of vintage as there are types of fabrics. So British textile firm proprietor Strutt audaciously promotes her vintage as one of the real things, backed by acres of colorful interior and exterior photographs. Consider the text as accompaniment; in truth, lessons are learned more by the visuals than the words. On the other hand, each chapter imparts at least one decorating tip; living room design, for instance, must take into account the comfort of its residents rather than aesthetics. On the whole, colors should reflect creams and yellows, greens and browns, not the psychedelic hues beloved by such designers as Tricia Guild. And there is absolutely no harm in mixing to one's heart's delight a cheery combination of fabrics, of furniture styles, and of accessories. Expect few instructions, but many visual ideas.
