Q
Dear Sir/Madam, I would like to lay some outdoor carpeting onto a front porch that consists of tongue and groove boards. There is an old cellar underneath the porch. Is it feasible to lay outdoor carpeting onto this surface? I want to keep the water from going into the cellar as it is attached to the basement. By sealing the boards and laying the carpeting on top, would the carpet get ruined by the water that would lay in it until it dried? Thanks.
A
I don't think it's as much a matter of the carpet getting ruined as the water that "lays there" ruining the wood underneath. Since you don't want to drain
the area into the basement... I think a slight slope could be created to give you the proper drainage ... this is called a float where the water would be encouraged to run off the front of the porch.
Any competent instlaller can do this for you....
all the best,
Jerry Mascari
