Q
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I want to clean my carpet thsi weekend by using a steam cleaner that you rent @ Wal-Mart. I have been told not to use any shampoo whatsoever on my berber carpet b/c it can make stains worse. I really do not have a lot of stains on my carpet it is more odor stains from a pet I previously owned. It was a small dog who would have "accidents" on various places in my house. I called a carpet manufactuer and they told me I could use "Spot shot" or "Orange Glo" cleaner on specific places, but I am a little leary of that as well. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do? My carpet is not quite 2 years old.
A
The problem with getting pet odors out of the carpet is that while the carpet fiber itself can be clean effectively using a hot water extraction method... the odor is usually in the cushion underneath the carpet....not in the carpet itself.
Without knowing more about the fiber of the carpet ... If you can ...lift the carpet and cut out the padding where the stains
have settled... then replace it. While this may cost a bit more
than cleaning with rental or professional methods... it is the
only true solution to ridding the area of odors.
You still need to clean the carpet and it is best not to use
soap...that often remains in the carpet long after the job is done attracting more air born soil more rapidly than before.
hope this helps,
