Textile Style : The Art of Using Antique and Exotic Fabrics to Decorate Your Home Total Hits - 889  |  Hits Today - 0Rating:   Rating Average (1)    |  View Ratings  |  Add Your Rating

Textile Style explains how to transform boring to unique with common fabrics as well as sumptuous lengths of Indian jewel-colored silks, intricate kelims and rugs from the East, and woven Scottish shawls. These and many more can be used around the home in a context very different from their original purpose.

For years I've bought dozens and dozens of home, garden and crafts books. Some of them are really good books, most of them are just beautiful editions with magazine like editorial content, and the smallest part of them are composed by some really, really, marvellous books.

In my large collection of home and garden books I choose "Textile Style : The Art of Using Antique and Exotic Fabrics to Decorate Your Home" as my number one book, what means the best of the bests. Since I bought it turned the most important among the others, the most read, the most manipulated, the most talked about. So, I really recommend it!!!

The other books of Caroline are not pieces of art like "Textil Style" but they all show she's a very good home designer.

This is a fantastic design book. Beautifully photographed and organized in a sensible and intuitive way, anyone interested in design or textiles will love it. Most of the interiors pictured are in London, and there is a bias for that quirky British "more is more" style. So it you're looking for decorating inspiration for your minimalist home this book may not be very helpful. Otherwise, it's wonderful. I find myself referring to it again and again.

The Essential Guide to Upholstery Total Hits - 234  |  Hits Today - 0Rating:   Rating Average (0)    |  View Ratings  |  Add Your Rating
I received this book yesterday and cannot put it down. The pictures, drawings and advice are fantastic. I am very interested in upholstery projects for my home and am ready to move from a "beginning Intermediate" level to "Intermediate". This book is just what I needed for more guidance. I have an extensive collection of upholstery books, and except for "Simply Upholstery" and the "Singer Upholstery Basics" books, I have been mostly disappointed with the books I have received as they were not helpful or showed unrealistic projects. This book is like being in an upholstery class with a smart, interesting teacher. I hope Dorothy Gates writes more books on this subject. I would certainly buy it!!

The Fabric Quantity Handbook: For Soft Furnishings Total Hits - 274  |  Hits Today - 0Rating:   Rating Average (0)    |  View Ratings  |  Add Your Rating

'The Fabric Quantity Hand Book - Imperial' Simple-to-use for estimating curtain fabric quantities quickly and accurately. Also includes estimation tables for valances, pelmets, swags, blinds, bed valances, covers and much more. Available in metric and Imperial measurements. merrick-day.com

This book is designed to make the task of estimating fabric quantities for curtains, accessories and trims easier and more accurate. The tables have been formulated as the result of our experience making bespoke soft furnishings. However, when estimating for specific designs, the quantities given may need to be adapted and so should only be used as a guide.

Maybe I missed it, but nowhere in the description did I read that this ENTIRE book is in METERS!! V. helpful for design prof's outside of the US, but every chart has to be converted for those of us stuck in the English system of measure. It would be HEAVEN if the book had been published w/both yards and meters. Oh well, writing conversions in the margin is a good "slow day" project.

Very good book, with easy to follow instructions. My only reason for not giving it a 5-star rating was because I would have liked to see a few more curtain/drapery styles than were offered. Lots of really good tips in this book.

Its a good book for beginners, I am a beginner. ALOT of the projects in this book seem like they are from the early 80's (yuck) even though it was published in 2000. If looking for a how-to book this one is good with tips only. MOST of the projects are pillows and window treatments, with only a hand full of other projects. NOT a good book for the younger crowd looking for tips and projects for decorating their home. Or anyone looking for something modern. I personally was very disappointed, and there are book out there that are SO much better.

I ordered this book because I was out of ideas and needed some help with slipcovers. I have been sewing for more years than I can count, however, never to old to learn a few new tricks. I found this book to be very helpful, very simple instructions, step-by-step, they assume you are new at sewing, and take each step of the process & add photos so you can see what it is suppose to look like to keep you on track. I would suggest this book to anyone who wants to improve their sewing skills and/or new sewers or just looking for good ideas.

I wish I had seen this book first! This one reference combines numerous topics in one. What I like best are the step-by-step instructions - with photos! I am new at sewing and being able to see what the steps should look like is extremely helpful. Also, the book covered every type of curtain I could think up does such a thorough job with pillow descriptions that I think of the slipcovers section as an added bonus. If you want to decorate your home with neat and professional looking work, get this book!

What a great book! I'm not good with sewing... in fact, I've never done it before... but this book made everything so easy to understand, and therefore everything was so easy to make. Nobody wants to believe me that I did it all myself!

The Complete Upholsterer: A Practical Guide to Upholstering Traditional Furniture Total Hits - 231  |  Hits Today - 0Rating:   Rating Average (0)    |  View Ratings  |  Add Your Rating

This is a guide intended for the experienced upholsterer who works with antiques and period furniture. Part of the book is devoted to a history of styles of upholstered furniture from the 17th to the 20th centuries so that upholstery restoration may be made as authentic as possible. Sections on equipment, techniques, and projects assume some expertise in order to achieve professional results. Although not as practical for the home craftsperson as a basic guide like Michael Torelli and Ellen Haggerty's Reupholstering for the Home Craftsman (1977), this is an elegant, useful book for the antiques restorer. Recommended for decorative arts collections.
- Constance Ashmore Fairchild, Univ. of Illinois Lib., Urbana-Champaign
Copyright 1990 Reed Business Information, Inc. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

The book starts by teaching about style through the ages with the help of period drawings and paintings... then a walk through materials and techniques. Even a list of addresses of suppliers of professional upholstery supplies is provided. This is an essential reference for anyone thinking about upholstering anything.

50 Fabulous Chairs Total Hits - 202  |  Hits Today - 0Rating:   Rating Average (1)    |  View Ratings  |  Add Your Rating

This was such a fun book, it had many great ideas for painting chairs you find at flea-markets, garage sales etc... All of the patterns given could be enlarged or reduced to fit most any chair or other funiture. The directions were rather simple to follow as well. The photography was also good.

“This massive compilation of facts, skills, techniques, designs, and insider advice tells you everything....Set up your own workshop with just a few tools, a staple gun, cloth, and foam cutters. It’s practically enough information to make you a professional upholsterer!”—Decorating Country Style.
