Floorcloth Magic: How to Paint Canvas Rugs for Decorative Home Use Total Hits - 991  |  Hits Today - 0Rating:   Rating Average (0)    |  View Ratings  |  Add Your Rating
You're tired of staring at bare hardwood floors, but the cost of carpeting makes you cringe. You're fed up with endless vacuuming. You'd like to turn your creative energies to home decor. What to do? Make floorcloths! These hand-painted, durable canvas rugs were popular for centuries before the invention of linoleum and are experiencing a renaissance because they are beautiful, easy to clean, and non-allergenic. Moreover, they can be customized to fit the exact dimensions, color scheme, and style of any room in your home. Virtually indestructible, completely kid- and pet-proof, and easy to clean with a mop and water -- no wonder George Washington brought a beloved floorcloth to the White House (and took it away again at the end of his last term). A floorcloth is the perfect way to cover a bare floor and leave your personal artistic mark.

Floorcloth Magic offers complete instruction for selecting floorcloth materials and tools; easy-to-follow directions for mastering basic techniques; and guidelines for using decorative paint effects, including sponging, stamping, marbling, stenciling, and ragging. You will learn how to select color combinations and develop your own patterns. You'll also find inspiration for creating designs to fit every decorating style - from country to contemporary - in a gallery of full-color photos of works from a broad range of floorcloth artists.

Home design writer Couglin gives a thorough review of the numerous materials that can be used for floors, from wood to carpets to such novelties as leather and glass. She discusses historical background, safety, durability, practicality, and design concerns for each flooring option. Unfortunately, some of the projects shown here, such as refinishing wood floors, come with scant instructions. In contrast, Mair's inspiring work offers step-by-step instructions for preparing, painting, and finishing a floorcloth. Color photographs of professionals' cloths in a variety of styles will inspire amateur and experienced painters alike. Purchase Mair's title for public libraries and Coughlin's for interior design collections.

Does the cost of professionally-installed carpet or hardwood have you floored? Do it yourself, do it for less, and do it right. Whether you're eyeing new ceramic tile or sturdy laminates, the tricks of the trade are here: find out whether you can salvage what you have and what's available to replace it, if you must. Prepare for installation by removing old floors and laying down cementboard or underlayment. Learn how to put in new ones from parquet to vinyl. Plus: Charts for cross-checking average costs.

I was a bit disappointed that this book didn't go into more details. There's nothing on how to carpet steps. Also, the section on laminate doesn't mention the glueless type. This seems to be a common failing of a lot of do-it-yourself type books. Otherwise, I did get some useful information from this book.

Flooring Products and Hardwood Flooring in Hong KongTotal Hits - 1922  |  Hits Today - 1Rating:   Rating Average (22)    |  View Ratings  |  Add Your Rating
The primary audience for this report is managers involved with the highest levels of the strategic planning process, and consultants who help their clients with this task. The user will not only benefit from the hundreds of hours that went into the methodology and its application, but also from its alternative perspective on strategic planning in Hong Kong.

This report helps executives evaluate strategic investment and entry alternatives in Hong Kong. In order to evaluate Hong Kong, Icon Group International, Inc. draws on a methodology developed by Professor Philip Parker at INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France. The methodology decomposes a country's strategic potential along two key dimensions: (1) latent demand, and (2) accessibility. A country may have very high latent demand, yet have low accessibility, making it a less attractive market than many smaller potential countries having higher levels of accessibility.

This report provides a strategic profile of Hong Kong along these lines. Throughout the discussion, literally hundreds of statistics on Hong Kong are benchmarked against regional and global averages. The reader can thus quickly understand where Hong Kong fits into the regional and global perspective. The report first investigates the economic fundamentals affecting Hong Kong. These fundamentals are the source for Hong Kong's latent demand. Then, the subsequent chapters detail Hong Kong's accessibility. This evaluation covers a number of entry alternatives, including export strategies, and local direct investment strategies. If a firm decides to have a local presence in Hong Kong, this requires a strategic understanding of local business conditions. The conditions investigated in this report include local marketing (advertising, distribution, pricing issues) and entry strategies (opening an office, joint venturing, etc.), as well as human resources management (labor laws, costs, regulations). ...
